Malachi 3:10, our stewardship scripture, says:

10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

How much do we trust God with our lives?
These scriptural words from prophet Malachi call us to the sacrificial giving of our time, money and ability
in order to make a discovery that will change our lives. God gives freely and fully to meet our deepest
needs.

Christian stewardship is the act of trusting God with what matters most to us. I encourage you to give
generously and sacrificially to God’s work through the ministry and mission of First Presbyterian Church. Listen carefully to the story of God’s faithfulness through this congregation and the opportunity we all have to be a part of it. Fill out a stewardship commitment card or respond online. Take Malachi’s invitation to “test” God and see if God can be trusted with “blessing” us in the fullest and richest sense.

Let’s trust God, together!

Our Mission

To serve Jesus Christ and share his gospel through meaningful worship, loving fellowship, spiritual growth, and compassionate outreach within our community and throughout the world.

As good stewards of pledges and tithes, FPC uses all contributions in a manner that glorifies Christ. Each ministry is a priority, and an avenue for reaching the community and welcoming them into a family of believers.

What is God doing through the people of First Presbyterian?

Music Ministry
The music ministry prepares worship music for the Glory of God through the Celebration Choir, Chapel Choir, Handbell Choir, Kingdom Kidz Music, VBS Praise Team,  organ, piano, and other instrumental music including the Christmas and Easter Orchestra. The music ministry also provides special community concerts and opportunities for members to combine their talents with others in mass choir events, Events planned for 2025 include collaborations with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and Cumberland Choral Arts. Costs for the music ministry include maintenance and tuning of the organs, pianos, and handbells; sheet music; guestmusician honorariums; and other supplies.

Congregational Care
This is a vital part of our church mission in providing for the spiritual, emotional, and in some cases, physical well-being of church members. Congregational care activities include Stephen Ministry; programs like Meals that Matter; Home & Hearth Holiday Fellowship meals; pastoral visits; S.A.L.T. trips and fellowship opportunities; and any coordinated care for the sick or homebound. This ministry accounts for 18% of First Presbyterian’s expenses.

Worship
When we gather with others to worship God, we are recentering our lives around what it means to be people of faith, hope, and love. Through worship we look back upon Jesus’ finished work on the cross, around at the people with whom we practice our faith, and ahead to the future God promises for the whole world. Planning for Sunday morning and midweek services like Church at the Table, preparing sermons, conducting weddings, funerals and other special events requires significant pastor and staff time. In 2024, 18% of First Presbyterian’s budgeted expenses were dedicated to worship.

Missions, Local and Global
From hurricane recovery efforts in the mountains of western North Carolina to meeting spiritual and physical needs in distant places, First Presbyterian missions are at work. Each year our commitment is highlighted through an annual mission conference. Your gifts of money and time support the work of evangelism, hunger relief, medical mission, and community development through local partners in Fayetteville and international partners around the world.  In 2024 missions utilized 25% of our annual budget.

Christian Education
The Christian Education Committee at our church plays a pivotal role in guiding and enriching our educational ministry at First Prez. The committee ensures our spiritual growth opportunities and programs align with the congregation’s values, provides oversight and encouragement to pastors, and assists in planning children’s and youth programs. This year, we have actively organized Vacation Bible School and Rally Day, facilitated Sunday School, and offered diverse Adult Christian Education opportunities. We support the children’s ministry, confirmands, youth group and coordinate intergenerational activities that foster a sense of community. Additionally, we work with leaders to offer enriching adult education opportunities, including Bible studies and small groups. We have strived to create a welcoming environment for new families. Through our collaboration with the Christian Education Directors, we help plan engaging events and support these activities.
