“Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:19
Our Vision
Music at First Presbyterian Church is dedicated first and foremost to the Glory of God. Instrumental and vocal music is offered to the Lord as prayer, in thanksgiving, and in proclamation of God’s goodness to us.
The Music Ministry welcomes all who feel called by God to offer their talents in gratitude, whether one is aspiring to learn music or well accomplished in this art. Childcare may be provided for all rehearsals.
Get involved:
Children’s Music Ministry: Children’s music is provided on Sunday evenings. Children will sing, play instruments and engage in musical games and instructions. Children will play percussion instruments and sing at worship services and special events throughout the year.
Celebration Choir: Rehearsals begin Wednesday, September 11 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. All who wish to sing with the choir and give of their talent as worship leaders are welcome to join the Celebration Choir. This choir sings weekly at the 11 a.m. worship service. No audition is needed. Youth are welcome to join this SATB choir.
Chapel Choir: Rehearsal is once a month on the first Sunday of the month in the chapel at 8:20 a.m. to prepare to sing in worship.
No weekly rehearsal required. Music reading skills are a plus, but not required. Each month’s anthem is sent via email with audio, so you can prepare at home. All ages are welcome to join.
Canticle Ringers: Rehearsals are on Mondays from 6:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. beginning September 9. This is a group of handbell ringers.
New ringers are welcome and you do not need to be an experienced ringer to join this handbell ringing group. The ability to read note values and music is helpful.
Women’s Ensemble: Rehearsals are on Mondays from 5:15- 6:00 p.m. beginning September 9. The women enjoy fellowship, prayer,
and fun as they join together singing three and four-part treble harmony. They sing once a month in worship.
Men of God - Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. This group is for experienced singers only. If you have sung in a barbershop
group or choir, please join us! The ability to understand music is helpful due to the fast-paced learning style of this group.
Church Orchestra or Instrumental Anthems: If you play an instrument and would like to make music with a group, consider joining the
church orchestra. This group meets during Advent and Lent to prepare music for Christmas and Easter worship. Only one Saturday morning rehearsal is required, as the music is sent to instrumentalists well ahead of time in a PDF format. If you would like to play a special musical anthem, that is also welcome. To be scheduled for either orchestra, a small group, or a solo anthem, please contact Dr. Mervin.
