2025 Mission Conference

Help in Times of Trouble:
Our Mission In North Carolina
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
Psalm 46:1-3

Dr. Anne Waple

Dr. Anne Waple has spent her career working in climate science, climate change assessment, and adaptation/resilience planning. Anne spent over 12 years in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) where she led global, national, and regional 'state of the climate' reports, and more recently led NOAA's climate assessment program for the U.S. National Climate Assessment. She then spent over three years as Vice President at a national sustainability-focused non-profit. For the last 10 years, Anne has run her own consulting practice that supports hazard assessment and resilience planning across multiple sectors, along with climate education projects. Anne is now the Disaster Recovery Coordinator for the Presbytery of Western North Carolina following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene.

Ways to Participate

Snack Kit Ministry

The intent of the Snack Kit Ministry is to provide nutritional food items for use over a weekend to children in need when they leave school on each Friday. Food requests from the Social Workers at area schools are steadily rising, and we want to grow our Snack Kit Ministry so that we can help.

The Snack Kit Ministry is in need of Sunday School Classes, Committees and Church Groups to pack Snack Kits. Sign up to volunteer outside of the Snack Kit Ministry Room.

Drivers are needed to deliver snack kits to Walker Spivey Elementary and Douglas Byrd High School.

If you are interested in helping, please contact:
Leslie DeSessa, LDesessa@gmail.com
Terry Plummer, plummer.terry57@gmail.com

It takes about $180 to provide food for the entire year to one student. Monetary gifts can be made to our Local Relief Ministry and dropped off at the church office.

Rise Against Hunger

One Million Meals Celebration
Join in the meal packing & celebration on February 22.
9 a.m. Meal Packing begins

The celebration includes face painting for the kids (and those who are kids at heart), a boxed lunch, and guest speakers from Rise Against Hunger.

All volunteers must register. Boxed lunches are available for preorder until February 19 at no cost.

To register, click here or call the church office at (910) 483-0121.

Presbytery of Western North Carolina

Following dinner on Wednesday February 26, children (Kindergarten and up) and youth in attendance will have the opportunity to spend some time packing supplies for Western Carolina. Children and teens will also have the opportunity to participate in an open discussion to share how the impact on the victims of Helene is seen through their eyes.

You can now make donations directly to a fund that will provide relief to people in Western North Carolina including:

•Assistance to help individuals and families, some who are displaced by the hurricane, to meet essential needs such as food, water, and gasoline.

•Supplies to help in cleaning, such as buckets, mops and other items.

The PWNC Hurricane Relief fund is now accepting contributions. These will help people with the unmet needs within the bounds of our Presbytery who were affected by hurricane damage. While this fund will be used for emergency supplies, it will also help assist with the long-term efforts to clean and restore buildings and property.

Monetary donations can be made on the Presbytery of Western North Carolina's website. Click here to view the site.

Haiti Outreach Ministries

Children’s Ministry sponsors two children in Haiti. Youth Ministry sponsors one child in Haiti. To help us continue to support these children, we ask you to consider making an offering for Haiti Outreach Ministries. In Haiti, there is no free, public education. HOM and its Haitian partner MICECC operate three primary schools and a secondary school, providing a quality education steeped in Christian principles.

Monetary donations can be dropped off at the church office
and marked “Sponsor a Child in Haiti”.

Children will have crafts for sale during Mission Conference in Eller Hall. All proceeds will benefit sponsoring these two Haitian students.
